thursday

oh yeah,were still here.
4",2",11" drills are finally working it's way into our sun fried brains.i think being out in the sun affects your hearing too.AMA can disagree on that.
team is final hitting the water well.we still need to be patient into our race pace.
strokers ,you reading this?
this is the part of the week that mentally we think we are not doing well, otherwise it's all physical
.really, really recommend a lot of cardio ,running ,cycling anything to work out your lungs and your heart for not only the year but for the off season.
muscle aches, joint pains, blisters, blue black gunnel bruises, muscle knots on your lower back, quesy stomach(i blame it on hotel orange juice),oh yeah,we do get comp. breakfast.the good kind.
but,we got lisa.free back rubs, shoulders, neck arms, she is always there to give you a few minutes of your time to give relief on your achey spots.
General Lee had to take a break today.dragon boaters enemy.that cursed back muscle.she was very frustrated.but, lot's of rest and ice and a call from her MD will probably help.i'm sure she will be there to paddle with us Friday and race day.
oh yeah!finally discovered great butt pads!not gonna let this out in public (company will hate and love me the same time.you'll see me use it when i paddle.ordered 1 for wendy and 1 for cortnie for her B-day ,charlotte ordered 1 for herself and had a great idea of having all 3 shipped to our hotel the next day!now we got 3 very happy paddlers.no more pain in the ass, somehow we have to think and find a way to fix the blisters....

brutal day

toughest day of the week ,so far,
11'x4;of sectionals, then 6'x 6.started and ended each seassion with a "from here to there" drill.i will have to borrow this drill.about a 1200 m. run.
video taped before.should have known what was ahead of us.
paid for partying with the crew and coaches last night.did not hear anybody complain.the question"any aches and pains i need to know about "was asked by andrew.we did'nt say shit.

the pm drill was a lot better.jim fasrintosh was our guest in the boat.1" x10.worked on really slowing the whole process down.long length with the reach, long in the water.i love the results!
6 ' run x 6.of course the "here to there again.
we should change our team name to team biofreeze.

first day

first day of camp finally came.13 of us from Racine and charlotte from big fish was joine by 3 women from jersey.brand new paddlers.tom will be coming in tomorrow.
andrew will be coaching us this year.lot's of intl.paddling experience as a DB paddler and coach.
4 min drills and 2 min drills was the theme of the morning session.
jersey girls struggled a bit.alittle breezy and warm.cannot complain.
listened to a lecture about fund raising.learned a few tips from julie.had lunch and ice packs on shoulders for some, biofreeze for my lats.off for a nap.more paddling this pm.

so anyway, brian r.AKA spiderman,AKA LT. dangle,RENO 911,luggage is somewhere except Tampa.everybody has been gracious enough to find clothes for him.i.e.bryan s,helped him shop for paddling shoes.big mistake, bryan picked pink shoes!
and well, hope this speaks for itself.

bryan's shirts

last year ,bryan,as an after dinner recreation, would somehow convince the wait staff, bartenders ,even a gas attendant to give up their work name tag.first night he left the bar with one,the seconf night he was out til 5 am(he did not have to paddle)and came home with 5.do'nt ask me how he came about to get them.i do not want to know.
this year,i have challenged him to go for shirts, not mine but anybodys willing to give up their shirts.sure enough, last night (i do not want to know how )he came home with a shirt off somebody's back.now he will have a shirt to pin all those name tags .talk about multiple personalities.

the day is a bit breezy,in the mid 40's!warm day! packed up the car on tothe airport.no untoward incident leaving milwaukee, had to skip the custoary drink before leaving as my flight is scheduled at 6 am.yes, despite living in wisconsin, even airport bars are closed at 0530.although curt and bryan managed to have a beer before checking in.resourceful bastards.
finally got to tampa on a nice breezy day,mid 80's .can't complain,stiorming in racine/kenosha area-what am i doin' here!?
i'm here to DRAGONBOAT! haad lunch at the Bahamabreeze, outside tables, with a few of of the week ARASHI.stocked up on groceriesin preparation for the rest.gonna be busy.a lot of paddling in store.not complaining.oh,as we were pulling in to the hotel area, noticed the trailer full of OC-1 and OC-2.the Gods are watching over me!maybe i could convince the GWN guys to let me borrow one of theirs this week.
tomorrow is supposed to be a lazy day.do nothing except sit by the pool ,wait for the rest of ARASHI to show up and then pick up our camp packets, then on to a team dinner.

From the Coach

12 more days before we leave for DB spring camp. 5 days of 2 a day 1.5-2 hours of paddling and capped off with the crew competing in the Tampa DB fest. A great way for the crew to start the season, a great beginning to work ourselves into geling as a crew. Don't forget to pack your butt pads and gloves, salt water isn't really too friendly after a while unless, you like to wear your blisters as a badge of hard work. The 1st week of May we will be joined by 10 new members for ARASHi, they are all newbies so, if you see a new face in our boat please welcome them.

Wake the Dragon

In less than two weeks we will be on the water in warm & sunny Tampa at the GWN training camp. Practicing for 90 minutes twice per day M-F, ending on Saturday by competing in the Tampa Bay International Dragon Boat Festival, will make the 3-1/2 months of training at the pool worth it! Thank you J.Jay for your well planned workouts!

By the time we return from Tampa the boats should be on the water. "Cooler near the lake" will have a whole new meaning after paddling on the Garrison Channel in Tampa.
Shut up and Paddle!
